A great April market and a look ahead to next season

IMG_1601Suddenly the wooden floor and cinder block walls were transformed by green. Lettuces, broccoli rabe, seedlings, and spring flowers gleamed on the tables. In this our last “winter” market spring has come. The room soon filled with people shopping, chatting, feeling happy to be together again. All in the name of good local food.

It was a wonderful market on Sunday, and our second busiest this season. Thank you to all of the participants – on both sides of the table – who make this a fantastic event.

And an even bigger thank you to Jessica who has managed this market from dream to thriving community event. She has put in untold hours of hard work and deserves to be very proud of the market she has created.

I am very grateful that she has now passed this market to me, Katie Semro, to manage. And I am looking forward to next season already.

A little bit about me. My family and I moved to South Berwick last August from Winchester, England. I am American, my husband is British, and I lived in England for 11 years. I am thrilled to be back in Maine, where I went to college, and have been amazed with the local food available here in the Seacoast.

I am mom to Imogen, nearly 5, and Rhys, 15 months. Before having kids I had my own business making wedding stationery. Whilst I loved stationery, food is my passion. So I am very excited to turn my energy and knowledge to benefit great local food.

I am looking forward to carrying on this exciting community event and hope to see you at the markets!
